Like many of you, I am a parent as well. My husband, Bill, and I have four children and six beautiful grandchildren. The oldest grandchild is 19 and the youngest is 7 years old. My family is something that truly blesses my life and joining the Orchard Avenue family makes my life that much richer.
I have been in education for over 20 years and began my career as an elementary teacher at Columbine Elementary. During my 14 years in the classroom, I taught third, fourth, and fifth grade. In addition to working as a classroom teacher, I was an instructional coach for elementary teachers for several years. I moved into administration and worked at Nisley Elementary for a few years, and then as principal of Fruitvale Elementary. I retired after 11 years in administration to take care of my elderly parents and spend more time with my grandchildren.
Ms.Woods, your principal, asked me to substitute for her at the beginning of this year. I fell in love with Orchard Avenue students, staff, and parents, so when she asked me to return as her half time assistant principal until May, I jumped at the chance. Half time is the best of both worlds for me: I can care for my parents and grandchildren while having a wonderful time working at this great school.
Because the relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, I encourage you to become involved in every way possible. I look forward to the collaboration and support we will be able to give each other. Working together effectively begins with communication and I welcome your input. I would love to discuss any suggestions you have to help better meet our students’ needs, ensure their success here, and to better prepare them for successful futures. I am here to make every effort to help your child reach his/her fullest potential.
